Cape de Firr
Description
Undisputed symbol of the Apulian Aqueduct and of an entire past era, the fountain, with its typical shape complete with a hat and a water collection basin, is present in all the centers of the region.
True icons of the "social conquest" of water, the fountains began to populate the streets and squares of the city at the beginning of the last century, bringing the first healthy public water to Puglia.
Their history dates back exactly to 1902, to the law for the construction and operation of the Apulian Aqueduct which states that "the Consortium must build at its own expense in each municipality, in a number proportionate to the inhabitants, free fountains for the public, with the municipality remaining entitled to regulate their use, and paying for the water".
The regulation for the construction and operation of the Apulian Aqueduct, approved by Royal Decree in 1904, regulates its installation, "at the rate of one for every 2,500 inhabitants in large centers with more than 20,000, one for every 1,500 in municipalities with a population of between 10,000 and 20,000 inhabitants, and finally one for every 1,000 inhabitants or less in smaller centers".
